A Lady of Science and Social Conscience

  1. I absolutely love these cartoons. Thank you for sharing these! I like the second one the best because the mother keeps asking for practical advice but all she gets in return is criticism. I think that Fanny Fern talks about the issue of parental sterotypes in Ruth Hall. Hall is continually critiqued by the Halls about how she raises her children. To make matters worse, Ruth cannot receive the help she actually needs until she becomes independent, as the Halls and Ruth's father refuse to help supply funds; thus, I think that the illustrations are a good, fitting connection.
